Event Cancelled! – La Crosse Evening Event – Culture: The Key to Organizational Agility

***Event Cancelled***

Due to unexpected low attendance in La Crosse, Wisconsin, tomorrow’s scheduled PMI La Crosse event (Culture: The Key to Organizational Agility) has been cancelled.

We will apologize for the inconvenience and will return all attendees their respective registration fees.

Introduction/Description:

In the language of sociotechnical organization design, every organization is a composite of the technical system by which it does its work, and the social system by which it governs the conduct of its work. In other words, every organization is the product of its processes and its culture. The degree of an organization’s agility, then, is the product of the agility of its processes and the agility of its culture. In fact, experience teaches us that it is the organization’s culture that is the key to its agility. Yet, while designing and maintaining agile processes is an engineering discipline that is well understood, designing and maintaining an agile culture is a leadership discipline that is not well understood.

This presentation will introduce field-tested models to better understand:

  • What an organizational culture is.
  • How it fits into the organizational ecosystem, diagnose its current state and design a desired state.
  • The forces that, by design or by default, influence the reinforcement of its current state or its movement toward some future state.

About the Speaker:

SPEAKER BIO: Jim Ruprecht

Jim is Co-Founder & Principal Consultant at agilityIRL where he educates, coaches and consults to motivated leaders at all levels in matters of organizational leadership and leading cultural change in order to achieve organizational agility.

Based on his experience creating 9 new organizations, renovating 4 under-performing ones, and re-designing 2 that were not well positioned for the future, Jim shares the pragmatic lessons he has learned for leading cultural change on local, national and international teams.  He has also curated those lessons in his book, Windward Leadership: Taking Your Organization into the Prevailing Winds on Political Seas.

An accomplished leader in real life, Jim has previously held positions ranging from VP of IT, then a VP in Product Development, at a global, $5 billion business unit of a Fortune 250 medical device manufacturer; to COO of a small, second stage, biopolymer engineering firm; to “chief digital officer” at a privately held aircraft manufacturer; to the startup of several “boutique” consulting firms. He has also served on several boards for non-profit and for-profit organizations.

Solving the Team Puzzle: How Teams Work

Description: Ask any group of experts to define the elements of team performance and you will get a long list. Ask them in what order to those elements and you will get a long discussion. Long lists and long discussions are not actionable.

In this presentation Doug Peters will reduce those long lists down to three variables. He will then demonstrate how those elements combine to create a three-dimensional puzzle that must be solved each time a team is built. Finally, he will present his Team Launch Strategy that organizes the building of a team into a Phase/Gate system for team development that develops high performance teams faster, better, and at less cost than traditional team building approaches.

Doug’s work is based on the best practices of high performance teams at 3M. These best practices were developed over an intensive twenty-year period of implementing high performance new product teams, business, teams, executive teams and improvement teams in over 75 divisions of 3M Company. He has applied this learning to high performance teams in companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 organizations. His worked was published in the PDMA Tool Book and was presented to an International PDMA conference in Orlando, Florida.

About the Speaker:  Doug’s work with teams began in graduate school where he focused on the use of teams and small groups in counseling and therapy. His corporate experience began in Control Data’s productivity department where he was charged with determining why quality circles worked in some companies and not in others. Since that time he has conducted over 400 team training and team building events.

Over the last 25 years Doug has worked with a wide range of teams in a variety of organizations. He specializes in new product development teams, business teams, executive teams, and major project teams. He has also worked with customer service teams, quality improvement teams, process improvement teams, self-directed work teams, sales teams and others.

Doug has designed and delivered hundreds of workshops on a wide variety of topics to a wide range of organizations. He is a subject matter expert in personal effectiveness, interpersonal effectiveness, team effectiveness, organizational effectiveness, and supervisory/management development.
